We’re at War!

We’re at War!
In the Bible, Ephesians 6:10-14a tells us:
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore,…”
Like many of you, I was horrified to learn of the assassination of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday 10 September 2025 while he was speaking at a college in Utah.
I have struggled with his death—to clarify, the death of his body, for his soul is truly alive with King Jesus in Heaven. Thousands of words and comments have been made in the hours and days after he was murdered. And I do not pretend to have a new insight or catch phrase to add.
Personally, I have been challenged to live more boldly as a follower of Jesus Christ. And not be worried about offending someone with the Truth.
Jesus was willing to hang naked on a Roman cross for my sins (and your sins too) for six hours. In essence, taking on the sins of the entire world (past, present, and future), He was separated from Father God for those six hours, which is what Hell is…separation from God. Jesus went to Hell for six hours so that I don’t have to go to Hell if I accept Him as Lord and Savior (nor do you if you accept Him as Lord and Savior).
Charlie Kirk had done so. And he lived out his life with courage and boldness. In spite of the lies, half truths, mischaracterizations, venom, etc. hurled at him, he went to where so many were afraid to go. Because he loved Jesus and loved people. He recognized that lies have been foisted on our nation’s young people by the Devil and his minions and those human beings who serve him.
And Charlie wanted them to know these precious young people to know the Truth. For Jesus said in John 8:31, ““If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
In his death, I’m not pretending Charlie was perfect or perfect in his actions. For there is no one who is perfect…or ever has been perfect or ever will be…except Jesus Christ.
Charlie recognized from those verses in Ephesians 6 that we are war: not with human beings…but with the Devil and his minions. And this war is more real than any war that’s ever been fought on Planet Earth.
Even though I served over two decades as a U.S. Marine and trained for war, I was clueless about spiritual warfare and left my family and me unguarded and our family nearly disintegrated as a casualty of divorce.
But thanks be to God! He saved our family…revealed to me the mistakes I had made…and showed my wife and me how to rebuild trust and nurture our family.
With Charlie Kirk’s assassination, I’m reminded that we’re at war. (And I must be engaged along with my wife with our nonprofit ministry to encourage Christian families to stay in the fight and not quit via divorce or separation.) And we can’t win this war with human strength.
St. Paul, who wrote the Ephesians 6 passage also wrote in 2 Corinthians 10:5
“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”
Thus, spiritual warfare is fighting on our knees in prayer then standing to destroy the lies and arguments and lofty opinions raised against the knowledge of God.
Those human beings who are serving the Devil are not our enemies. The Devil is our enemy.
Thus, in love toward human beings who are spouting lies and arguments contrary to God’s word, we must bring Truth to the forefront.
And if that means we’re killed, then so be it.
So, may we, having done all to stand, then stand.
Charlie Kirk stood again and again for Truth. And King Jesus welcomed him home on Wednesday 10 September 2025 with ultimate commendation/medal: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
Will you and I receive the same? I hope that we will.
May God help us to get in the fight, stay in the fight, and if necessary die in the fight. But never stop standing.
